Headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee at the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, we live and work in an area entrenched in log home history.
Knoxville, Tennessee is home and where our models, mill, construction teams, and trucking operations reside. Although we erect log and timber frame homes across the U.S., we do not have dealers. We control all aspects of quality and service.

Rob Cantrell, President
Rob has served as president of StoneMill since 1994. Relying on a strong, veteran team of industry professionals to implement his vision, Rob has led StoneMill to a dominant position in the log and timber industry. His hands-on management style keeps him active in all aspects of the business allowing him to keep a firm grasp on the direction of the organization.
In addition to his vast industry experience, Rob is a graduate of University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s Degree in business and Georgia State University with a Master’s Degree in Business. Rob holds a Class A General Contractor’s license and is active in industry associations serving as the President of the Log Homes Council where StoneMill has been an active member for over 30 years.
When not at StoneMill, Rob enjoys spending time with his wife, who worked with him in the business early on, and their two sons. He enjoys spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, hiking, skiing, and boating among other activities. Rob’s family has been personally touched by Type 1 diabetes and he has served in many leadership roles of Juvenile Diabetes Research foundation.
Mathew Sterchi, Vice President of Sales & Marketing
Mathew has almost two decades in the log and timber frame industry. He has sold and facilitated the construction of approximately 400 log & timber frame residential and commercial projects. Joining StoneMill after graduating from the University of George Terry College of business, Mathew has earned credibility among his industry peers as a log and timber frame authority.
He has been a contributor for over two dozen magazine articles on topics such as home design to energy efficiency. “I am passionate that the entire StoneMill team, from sales to field crews, exceed the homeowner’s expectations for quality, customer service, and construction. Our reputation is built on excellence,” states Mathew.
In his free time, Mathew loves being with his wife and four active boys that keep him busy with coaching sports and outdoor activities. He is involved in his community and leads the Early Risers Basketball ministry at his church; served as President of the East TN Chapter for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; and other Knoxville area volunteer work. Recently, Mathew obtained his TN real estate license.
Josh Berry, Operations Manager, Creekside Construction
Josh oversees the fabrication and installation of the StoneMill product. Josh’s career at StoneMill began in 1999 and over the years, he has been personally involved in the construction of hundreds of homes across the U.S.
He personally visits each jobsite before material is delivered and construction begins to assure the building process will be smooth. Josh works closely with design and fabrication to assure the designs will work in the field and the material is properly fabricated. He is an expert in the art of log and timber construction and has the experience to train and manage Creekside’s crews as they travel across the country building our homes.
When Josh is not shouldering his responsibilities for StoneMill, he is spending time with his wife and two sons.
Jim Slaughter, Sales Consultant, MSgt, USAF, Retired
Jim is a veteran in the log and timber frame industry as well as, a retired USAF veteran with over 21 years of active duty. For over 17 years, Jim has worked with homeowners to design and build their ideal home.
His experience spans working on the construction side of StoneMill to using his drafting skills to help clients visualize their design concept. Jim states, “The best part of building homes, are the people. Most clients have dreamed of owning a log home for years. It’s a great feeling to help them make that dream come true.”
During his leisure time, Jim enjoys spending time with his wife Carolyn and Oliver, their basset hound. On a nice day, you may pass Jim cruising country roads on his motorcycle.
Patrick Elliott, Sales Consultant
Patrick is the newest team member of StoneMill Log and Timber Homes. After getting out of the military post 9/11 Patrick finished his MBA at Arizona State and began a career in the Financial Services Industry. After 12 years of managing $168 million he and his wife and 4 sons moved to Knoxville. Patrick brought his vast customer service and financial skills to StoneMill to enjoy a slower pace of life. This makes him the perfect partner for people trying to transition into that dream or legacy home. Understanding how to translate ones dreams into reality is something that Patrick loves to do.
Having lived in 15 states in the US and being an active member of his Church and a coach of various teams gives Patrick the ability to find common ground and understand people from around the country.
Mike White, Sales Consultant
Mike enjoys log home living on the shores of an area lake. Serving as the general contractor when building his own home, Mike shares his experience guiding his clients through the design-build process. His enthusiasm is contagious as he shares his log home knowledge with homeowners.
Mike comments, “I want to make potential homeowners feel comfortable, make sure their questions are answered, and to feel like they’re part of the StoneMill family.”
Mike, his wife and three children enjoy lake living, boating, and attending school sporting events. He is active in his church and recently visited Nicaragua on a mission trip to construct a church.
Remington Brown, Design Manager
Remington has been sketching floor plans on napkins since he was a child. He joined StoneMill’s design department in 2004 as a draftsman. Currently, he serves as the design manager overseeing all phases of design.
His passion for the business is rooted in helping a homeowner create that elusive “dream home.” Remington comments, “It isn’t just about designing a home, it’s about being part of a creative process that for many, is a lifelong dream come true.”
When not designing, Remington can be found in the kitchen cooking with his wife, enjoying fatherhood, spoiling their two corgis, hiking, camping, playing guitar, or basketball.
Becky Davis, Administrative
Becky provides administrative support and has kept the office running smoothly since 2003. Becky is instrumental in helping to organize the Love of Logs events. She began working at StoneMill upon completion of her log home.
Becky remarks, “I really enjoy the Love of Logs events. Having so many people visit our models that are excited about building their own home, is contagious.”
A retired veteran with 20 years combined service in the Navy and Air Force, Becky now values relaxation and any activity that includes Lulu, her spoiled beagle.
Dawn Queener, Marketing
Dawn began working with StoneMill as a team member overseeing marketing activities reaching a national audience. Dawn is also a licensed real estate professional and can assist clients looking for property to build on in East Tennessee.
As a Knoxville resident for the past 16 years, she is proud to call East Tennessee her home. She, her husband and two sons enjoy spending their free time participating in the great outdoor activities our region has to offer such as hiking, biking and camping. She also enjoys playing tennis and competes on a local USTA team. As a graduate of Pellissippi State Community College and TRECS Real Estate School, her education, along with her drive and experience, has prepared her to be an invaluable asset to our StoneMill team. She is known for outstanding customer service, consistent communication and her client-centric approach will create a positive overall experience.
Interesting Facts about Dawn: She love dogs (especially yorkies) and drinking coffee. Recently, she has been named a Knoxville Ambassador by the mayor through the “Gotta Know Knoxville” division of our local tourism department. Steven Stepien, Draftsman
Steven joined the StoneMill team in January 2017 as a draftsman. With ten years of drafting experience he works closely with our Design Manager Remington Brown.
Steven is a United States Navy Veteran. The Navy helped him to develop a keen sense of attention to detail and a “think outside of the box” mindset. With a focus on quality, Steven has a “do it right the first time” approach to projects.
When not designing dream homes, Steven can be found spending time with his daughter hiking, riding four wheelers, being on the water and enjoying the great outdoors. Steven is also an extreme sports athlete and enjoys things like Snowboarding, Skydiving, Wakeboarding and Motocross.
The StoneMill Plant Team
The StoneMill plant team is led by Josh Berry (orange shirt) and they are responsible for fabricating each log that goes into a StoneMill home. Hand-hewn logs are actually hewn by this dedicated and hard-working crew.
